Living on Campus

PHOTO: Students in residence hall

The Stephens residence quadrangle is the heart of campus, beating to an exciting rhythm of creativity, growth and community. Students make the residence halls their own. Unlike most colleges, Stephens offers the opportunity to bring a pet with you. Students live on campus throughout their time at Stephens, taking advantage of the proximity to their classes, meals, professors, peers, campus programming and more. Our experience shows that students who live on campus derive the most from their college years, stay involved in campus life and succeed academically. In the halls, you will be surrounded by classmates and friends, as well as a student staff that is available to assist with questions, problems and concerns.

Residence Halls
Roblee Hall | Pillsbury Hall | Prunty Hall | Searcy Hall | Tower Hall |
Hillcrest Hall | Columbia Hall | Wood Hall

All residence halls are just a short walk from academic buildings. You may choose to live in a community-style hall (sharing a large bathroom) or a suite-style hall (two rooms sharing a private bathroom). All rooms contain a desk, chair, dresser and a bed with a standard twin-sized mattress.

By living in the residence halls, you will find that there’s always something to do, whether Residence Life is sponsoring an ’80s movie night or students are making popcorn and watching the season premiere of “American Idol.”

Note: Due to the uniqueness of all of our Residence Hall rooms the sample dimensions given are not uniform for every room. Room sizes and layouts may vary.

Roblee Hall

Roblee Hall
(capacity: 168 students)

Sample room dimension: 13ft by 14ft
Built in the 1930s, Roblee Hall features suite-style rooms complete with ceiling fans and hardwood floors. Roblee is named for alumna and former trustee Florence Allen Roblee, who established our Joseph H. Roblee Lecture Series in her husband’s memory.

“Even though the dorm rooms are very large in Roblee, the entire place just seems cozy, and warmth radiates from it. I love curling up with a book in the lounges or watching a movie out there with my friends.”

Pillsbury Hall

(capacity: 178 students)
Sample room dimension: 13.5ft by 14.5ft

No two rooms in Pillsbury - Roblee’s adjoining twin - have the same dimensions. Suite-style rooms feature ceiling fans and hardwood floors. Pillsbury is named for Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Pillsbury (she was a longtime member of the Board of Trustees) in recognition of their contributions to the College.

“You meet people who are in your classes. Everyone you live with are your friends for three or four years.”

Prunty Hall

Prunty Hall
(capacity: 50 freshmen, students with pets, sorority members)

Sample room diminsion: 14ft by 13.5ft; Baby Single 11.5ft by 10ft
Prunty Hall is where the College’s pet program began in fall 2004. (Due to its popularity, the program has expanded to Searcy Hall). Named after Merle Prunty, a well-admired former faculty member, the community-style hall also houses one of the College’s national sororities. Prunty offers the opportunity for a more creative, diverse living experience.

“I love waking up and looking out at the quad and being so close to everyone and everything. There is just no reason for me to move off campus when everything I love is here!”

“Keeping your door open all the time, hearing one of the girls yell that it’s time for dinner so we can all go together, and being able to share laughter, homework questions, and watching our favorite reality shows together are just a few examples of how close we get while living together.”

Searcy Hall

Searcy Hall
(capacity: 84 students, students with pets)
Sample room dimension: 11.5ft by 13.5ft; Baby Single 11.5ft by 10ft

Searcy Hall—named after beloved former professor Laura Searcy—is a freshman hall that features balconies and cozy lounges on each floor, perfect locations for studying! A limited number of rooms are available for students choosing to room with their pets. Students must apply to live on a pet floor and follow policy guidelines. A refundable pet deposit is required. Students share community bathrooms, cleaned daily so you will never have to worry about buying toilet paper or soap.

“I became incredibly close with the girls in my hall because of the smallness. By Day Two of my freshman year, I felt like I fit right in. Our friendships are not only about trading clothes and going out, they are about getting to know each others’ views and goals in life and growing together.”
Laura Eisenbaum ’07
Fashion Marketing and Management major
Houston, Texas

“I met special women my freshman year in Searcy; we lived on the third floor along with 16 other women. Many of us have kept in touch. Just another tale of how important the women you meet at Stephens will be in your life.”
Tiffany Leek ’91
Former Searcy Hall resident
Seattle, Washington

Tower Hall

Tower Hall
(capacity: 174 upperclasswomen)
Sample room dimension: 14.5ft by 13ft

Named for its unique architecture, Tower Hall is a popular hall for the majority of upperclasswomen (sophomores, juniors and seniors). It features suite-style rooms with central heating and air. At any time during the day or night, students can be found relaxing in its spacious lounges or watching television. Other features include an elevator, kitchen and dining area. The hall has a designated quiet floor, where 24-hour quiet hours are maintained for independent, responsible and academically motivated women.

“I’ve always wanted to live in Tower because some of the most inspiring and influential students I met my freshman year lived there. Like in every Stephens residence hall, everything is at my fingertips, and it’s just too convenient for me to think about living anywhere else.”

Hillcrest Hall

Hillcrest Hall
(capacity: 90 students; 15 apartments for seniors)
Sample room dimension: 13ft by 14.5 ft; Baby Single 13ft by 10ft

Hillcrest is a community-style hall for women. Its new fitness center opened in the summer of 2006.

Seniors also have the option of living in Hillcrest’s two-room furnished or unfurnished apartments. Each apartment offers a kitchen with refrigerator, stove and sink as well as a private bath. A limited number of suite-style rooms are available in Hillcrest.

“Living in a Hillcrest apartment, instead of off campus, made all the difference in regards to how involved I was at Stephens. It was easy to be part of the Stephens community, which made me a happier and more active student. I loved that it was apartment-living, for all intents and purposes, which gave me the autonomy I wanted without sacrificing the benefits of being on campus. Living there directly affected my success at Stephens.”

“Dorm life at Stephens College is not only the most interesting experience but a very valuable one. You have girls from your class you can form study groups with and an immediate support system, because the girls on your floor can empathize with going through the same things: homesickness, feeling overly stressed out or feeling unprepared. You’re able to learn, grow and live with many talented and intelligent women, and they will constantly inspire you and encourage you to become the amazing woman you are!”
