Stars Make History with Clean Sweep of AMC Player of the Week Honors

Athletics | College & Campus

Stephens College Athletics made history this week, becoming the first program in school history to sweep all five American Midwest Conference (AMC) Player of the Week honors across women’s soccer and volleyball. The Stars’ remarkable achievement highlights the depth, talent, and consistency across both programs as they continue to make their mark.

Following an 8-0 win over Central Baptist, Ava Leininger was named the AMC Soccer Offensive Player of the Week after recording her second hat trick of the season. Leininger led the attack in one of the Stars’ most dominant performances to date, as Stephens outshot the Mustangs 28-0.

On the defensive side, Charlie Keefe earned AMC Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after leading a back line that completely shut down Central Baptist’s offense. The Stars allowed zero shots on goal, securing their fourth shutout of the year and maintaining their strong form in conference competition.

The success carried over to the volleyball court, where Stephens swept all three AMC weekly awards after another strong week of play. This marks the third time this season that the Stars have claimed all three volleyball Player of the Week honors.

Amari Branch-Autman was named AMC Attacker of the Week after totaling 34 kills with a .433 hitting percentage over four matches. Jatnna Peña-Perez earned AMC Defender of the Week after recording 80 digs, averaging 5.71 per set, and Emma Whitson was recognized as AMC Setter of the Week after finishing with 140 assists while helping the Stars to three sweeps.

This marks the first time in school history that Stephens has gone a perfect 5-for-5 in AMC Player of the Week selections. The sweep reflects the continued growth of both programs and the collective effort of student-athletes and staff who have elevated the level of competition across the department.

The historic week serves as a testament to the direction of Stephens Athletics and the dedication of its student-athletes, coaches, and supporters. Both teams look to carry this momentum into the remainder of conference play as the Stars continue to shine on every stage.
