About Andrew Orenstein
Four days after graduating from the University of Western Ontario in 1992, Andrew Orenstein left his native Canada and headed to Hollywood. Since that time, he has written and/or produced over 500 episodes of television, spanning many genres, from sketch comedy to half-hour sitcom to one-hour drama.
Mr. Orenstein’s big break came when he was hired as one of the original staff writers on the hit NBC series “3rd Rock from the Sun.” He stayed for 100 episodes, rising to the rank of producer. He left in 1999 to help launch the single camera comedy “Malcolm in the Middle.” Over the next five seasons, he served as both a writer and Co-Executive Producer, involved in all aspects of production. After writing on the CBS medical series, Dr. Vegas, starring Rob Lowe and Amy Adams, Orenstein spent three seasons working with Chris Rock on his autobiographical series, “Everybody Hates Chris.” In 2009, Orenstein returned to Canada to Executive Produce the comedy, “18 To Life,” for the CBC. The series was later sold to the CW, where it ran in the summer of 2010. He returned once more to Canada in 2012 to Executive Produce “Package Deal,” a multi-camera sitcom he created for Rogers City TV/Hulu. In 2015, Orenstein became the Executive Producer of the hit series, “Just Add Magic,” for Amazon TV. Most recently he co-created the Emmy winning single camera children’s mystery, “Ghostwriter,” for Apple TV, and was the Executive Producer of “Circuit Breakers,” also for Apple.
Orenstein has won a Golden Globe, the prestigious Peabody Award, and a Daytime Emmy for Best Children’s or Family Viewing Program.
