Alumni Service Award Recipients

The Jean Clinton Roeschlaub ’44 Alumni Service Award is given to alumnae who have promoted Stephens College locally and nationally and have served as leaders of the College. The award memorializes Jean’s spirit of alumni service. She served as AAB president from 1950-51 and as a member of the Board of Curators (now known as our Board of Trustees) and as the first alumni-chair of the Board from 1981-92. She was named for the Ideal of Forcefulness (predecessor to Leadership)!  She would have been deserving of both awards. The award was named for her posthumously by the AAB.

Maggie Sewall Barbour ’60

Stephens College is proud to recognize Maggie Sewall Barbour ’60, a visionary alumna whose enduring leadership, thoughtful partnership, and deep devotion have helped shape the College’s evolution across decades.

Maggie has been a creative force and trusted advisor whose influence can be seen in some of the most transformative initiatives in recent Stephens history. Working closely with President Dianne Lynch, she has brought insight, imagination, and generosity to conversations and projects that continue to define the student experience today. Known for her quiet strength and collaborative spirit, Maggie has played a vital role as a connector, idea-generator, and steward of Stephens’ mission.

After graduating from Stephens, Maggie built a successful career in fashion retail and wholesale, eventually leading a private family foundation. She has been a lifelong advocate for animal welfare and a devoted community volunteer. From her hometown of Kennebunk, Maine, to her life in California, Maggie has continued to bring energy and compassion to every endeavor. A passionate reader and ice skater, she also enjoys mahjong, volunteering, and jigsaw puzzles—an apt symbol for her role at Stephens, where she has truly been an essential piece of the puzzle.

Maggie’s legacy is not only one of service, but of vision—an enduring reminder that meaningful change often begins with thoughtful listening, creative thinking, and a heart fully committed to community.
