Upperclassmen Host Creative Writing Welcome Tea Party

Welcome to the ECW Program!
On August 28, 2024, at 4 p.m. in the Library Penthouse, the English and Creative Writing (ECW) program will kick off the academic year with a Creative Writing Welcome Tea Party, hosted by four upperclassmen: Jo Douglas, Jubilee Forbes, Lydia Sheehan, and Sarah Phillips. They wanted to welcome their classmates to campus in a fun way, taking the initiative to organize this special tea party.
Attendees are encouraged to dress in summer semiformal attire for the occasion, for a stylish yet relaxed vibe. Snacks and teas will be offered, with a unique twist: participants are invited to bring their own mugs or cups. Come “spill the tea”, share stories and experiences, and meet your new teachers and friends.
“This tea party is an extraordinary reflection of the creativity and leadership we see in our students,” said Kris Somerville, Associate Professor of English and Creative Writing. “It’s not just a welcome back—it’s a chance for the entire community to come together in a meaningful way. I’m thrilled our upperclassmen are making this happen!”
The event is open to all students and faculty within the ECW program, offering a chance to reconnect after the summer break/connect with new students and set a positive tone for the semester ahead. With its blend of tradition, creativity, and community spirit, the Welcome Tea Party is sure to be a memorable start to the new academic year.
